Leather cell phone cases, automobile and home chargers, travel alarms, watches, and Flash Drive cases are just a few of the items I have purchased for a dollar. After experiencing the frustration of purchasing an automobile charger for my cell phone from my wireless provider, only to have it quit working after a month, I figured I had nothing to lose buy purchasing a charger from a local ‘Deals’ store for a dollar. It lasted six months. I paid $19.99 for the previous charger from my wireless carrier. So I figured I could purchase two or three at once and have an extra in the glove box as a spare. I also purchased a leather cover for the phone and have been satisfied with the look and fit as well. My children are in scouts and we spend quite a bit of time camping. The cheap digital travel alarms always work, and there are no regrets if they get stepped on, dropped, or lost. I have found them at many dollar stores such as Family Dollar, Big Lots, Marcs, and various other discount stores. The same idea goes for watches. Young children can lose them quite easily with all their activity, and the repetition of putting them on, taking them off. They work just as well as name brands, until they get dropped in the bathtub or left at a friend’s house. That is why I would not pay $25.00 for a child’s watch. It makes a child feel special to wear a watch of their own, and they usually come in many different styles or themes, such as animals and cartoon characters. The expression “you get what you pay for” does apply in many cases. For instance, I would not buy a cordless drill at a discount retailer when I can go to Sears and purchase a better quality drill for only $10 more. For smaller items though, I have actually compared by visual inspection and found the $1 item to look and perform exactly like the item for $20.00.
